10 Ways to Capture the Thrill of October

"When the birches in the hollow turned as golden as sunshine and the maples behind the orchard were royal crimson and the wild cherry trees along the lane put on the loveliest shades of dark red and bronzy green, while the fields sunned themselves in aftermaths, Anne from Anne of Green Gables exclaimed on one Saturday morning, "I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.  Look at these maple branches. Don't they give you a thrill--several thrills?".

  1. Go to a pumpkin patch and pick out the perfect pumpkin.
  2. Make caramel apples with family and friends.
  3. Take a walk through the crunchy leaves
  4. Place nuts around your windows or patio doors and watch the squirrels go "NUTS"
  5. Watch some movies that have beautiful Autumn images:
    1. You've Got Mail
    2. Autumn in New York
    3. Baby Boom
    4. Hannah and her Sisters
    5. When Harry Met Sally
    6. One True Thing
    7. Stepmom
    8. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
    9. Runaway Bride
    10. Hocus Pocus
  6. Bring a part of Autumn Nature inside your home
  7. Carve a pumpkin or make tea light candle holders using mini pumpkins, apples or oranges.
  8. Attend a festival.  Usually you can find a local one geared to pumpkins, corn, sauerkraut or an Octoberfest.
  9. Prepare a new autumn soup or stew and invite some friends over to celebrate October with you.
  10. And make a new October tradition.  In our house it wouldn't be October without watching "It's the Great Pumpkin".
