The Adventures of a Little Turtle

When we arrived at Cox Arboretum, it was sunny and warm. The temperature was 80 degrees. The park was filled with school children and grandparents, a traveling group of tourists from Japan all carrying cameras, and a group of karate students spilled out of a karate van.

The wind began to blow, gently at first. It felt good upon your skin. The group of Japanese tourists seemed to delight in this breeze, muttering softly to each other, every head nodding up and down.

But then the sky grew dark. The wind was not so gentle now, but persistent and harsh. Lunch bags blew off the picnic tables and people began to look up at the sky.

I peered out at the pond, fascinated with the large ripples being formed... and spied this little turtle swimming.... swimming very, very fast.

The turtle seemed to have a destination in mind. I turned to gaze in the direction the turtle was headed... and just that quickly, the wind stopped completely for a few moments, and then a gentle breeze began anew.

The turtle seemed to be heading to the rocks by the weeping willow. And as the wind picked up again, and the air began to cool, the turtle didn't stop but continued towards the destination.

As I walked around to the spot the turtle was swimming... I was able to capture their meeting.

The larger turtle seemed so pleased with the arrival of the smaller turtle and rubbed his head against that turtle. Everyone who gathered smiled. The cameras clicking from the Japanese visitors. Love in Spring is pretty grand don't you think?
