Hungarian Horse Shoe Cookies

Sift 4 cups of flour in a bowl. To this add ½ pound melted butter, 3 egg yolk’s unbeaten. Juice of 1 lemon with grated rind. Mix this like pie dough. In the meantime heat ½ cup of milk until luke warm and add to this 1 cake yeast and 1 Tablespoon of sugar. When the yeast has dissolved add this liquid to the dry mixture. Mix well and let stand for 1 hour.

After an hour your dough will be so smooth and elastic. And smell so good.

This recipe has been in my husband's family for years. The recipe he was given is worn and tattered. The recipe was from his great great grandmother and it's still a family favorite. And now it is my son's favorite cookie. (If you like walnuts, you'll love this recipe. Unfortunately my tongue reacts to walnuts... and it becomes too painful for me to eat).

Evening, I came across your blog quite by accident. I like to cruise from one blog to another. I find the most interesting things and people that way. The title of snow in Miami Valley caught my eye. I like in a Miami Valley. Thenk I saw the from Cox and I realized we are in the same Miami Valley. I live north of Dayton. Your friend Kumiko didn't use to live in Piqua did she? I know some people who had an exchange student name Kumiko who use to live with them. Happy Holidays.
