One of my solar Japanese lanterns had fallen off it's hook. Afraid that it might roll into the pond, I hurried outside, leaving the patio door opened. It was snowing quite heavily and I didn't take the time to put shoes on. I was barefoot in the snow.
I gathered up the pieces of the lantern, scattered in 3 different sections of the yard. I brought them inside so I could put the lantern back together. As I was closing the patio door, something caught my attention. I peered up at the ceiling and screamed to see a rabid bat flying around. I dropped the lantern too.
Alex heard me scream and came out of his bedroom. The creature flew into my bedroom. I peeked around the corner and there it was, a little sparrow, sitting on top of my husband's dresser.
Using Alex as a barricade blocking off the rest of the house, I tiptoed into the bedroom, talking quietly to the bird. He got antsy and flew out the bedroom, almost flying into Alex's palm and then realized the front door was opened and flew out.
I prefer seeing them outside. Actually this little sparrow seems to be living on and off right above my patio door. He was there in the Spring, and 2 crazy finches would dive bomb him, trying to get him to leave (the finches were trying to build a nest). Now maybe it's not the same bird; but I like to think it is.
