11/20 - Day 20 of 30 Days of Gratitude

I love peonies. Especially the double ones. They remind me of growing up, and my Aunt Vera who always had these flowers along the side of her fence. She would bring them inside and I would watch the ants crawl out of them. You know those huge black ones? One of the first places I lived had pink peonies. And then one year the blooms turned a deep purple. Which always baffled me... how and why did that happen. I know there is probably a logical explanation and the answer is only a "google" search away, but I like to believe it was a magical moment and one that I'll always remember. Today I'm grateful for flowers, especially my favorites: peonies, gerber daisies and purple roses. I'm also grateful for people like my Aunt Vera. She was a fun Aunt, also decorated the tops of her butter, fixed hotdogs that always left the boiling water "red" and loved to play euchre. And if I think of Aunt Vera, then I also most remember Uncle Ed. He was pretty awesome too.
